I would like to know who trained these dogs to do that. Not that I want my dog to be trained to be that obedient and patient, but I'd like them to train my grandkids!😁
I really enjoyed this article till I read the comments and the suggestion of cruelty and how the dogs were trained was brought up now I’m perplexed, bewildered and ambiguous about the whole situation that said I loved seeing a picture of dog sitting and I adore dogs so I hope and pray cruelty is not involved.
The comments show a low expectation dog owner. Without any info on the rest of the dogs’ day peeps make ignorant and arrogant comments. Dogs are capable of many things and learning to hang out in a busy place with other dogs while keeping still a few hours is not cruel. A well behaved dog is a fabulous friend and it’s also teaching dogs about decision making and waiting for things which is a sign of intelligence. The dogs group collecting a wayward dog is quite amazing. Some peeps look for bad things.
Here is cruelty for dogs: Having owners they cannot communicate with, and being unable to accompany their family anywhere.
A dog trained to focus on the leader loves the work. They are looking for signals to help, the primary instinct of dogs. And in my experience, these dogs are calmer and happier (judging by their body language of joy).
These dogs do not sit for hours. The intense watching is a training exercise, while the leader works with one dog at a time on leash skills and voice commands.
And all the dog trainers give plenty of exercise, both random running around and jumping, as well as exercising their favorite instinct: sniffing/smelling. A gang of these dogs walking with the leader on slack leashes puts a smile on anyone's face. The dogs are happy, and festive.
What is the stupid purpose of cruelly forcing dogs to sit beside each other for hours? It’s like a concentration camp for dogs. Furthermore sitting in one place for hours accumulates lactic acid in the body.
no different to me than expecting young children to sit in a classroom for 8 hours a day and not letting them play or daydream/imagine, "PAY ATTENTION! STAY FOCUSED!!!" NOT A CHILD OR DOG'S JOB!!!!! CRUEL!!!! and then we put the kids on HARMACEUTICALS because they cant sit still 🙄🙄🙄 PAIR RENTS 😑😑😑
It’s not this or that. There’s a lot of in between. I can’t think of what the type of school is (it’s nearly 4am), but children learn as they explore the world. Example of learning about science: children take a nature walk, and there are discussions on the flora and fauna they encounter as they wander.
no one said anything about leaving kids home alone, but indoctrination prison camps oops i mean schools are certainly not a place for education, they are a place to be heavily controlled and propaghandized and to mold a child to be enslaved. i wouldn't put my child in "school" for one second. if you think today's acadamia is "education" i feel sorry for you and your children, it's actually ALL MISINFORMATION AND LIES AND TOTALLY USELESS because our children no longer have a future going to college, getting a "good job and living the american dream," that's all DEAD. keep your kids home, be a strong family unit, teach them a skill, grow your food together, prepare for what's to come...it does not involve "SCHOOL!"
Ok. I’m done with you. You only want to argue as your “not-so-brilliant” reply to jamie proves. Do not interact with me again. You are being argumentative for the sake of arguing. All other comments, both pro and con on this thread, have been insightful and well thought out and do offer reasons to believe this training may not be all bad. Your comments do not offer anything of value. You are just trying to argue. I’m done responding to you.
We've noticed a similar high bar in dog training in Scotland. Few dogs on leash and almost all of them well-mannered and staying next to their human companion. It was pretty noticeable how consistent this was, across the many dozens of dog walks we witnessed all around the country.
The difference is that a well-trained dog next to a human is most likely moving or only waiting for short periods of time. And that is fantastic. A well trained dog is a free dog.
Here they are talking about the dog being immobile by the hour. Total unnatural behaviour.
It just seems that making dogs sit for hours on end is not good or healthy for them. I hope there is some exercise and play time included. Just because we can make them sit there and obey, should we?
I’ve seen dogs behave like this in Germany. Dogs can sit under owners tables in restaurants & they won’t move when another dog comes in unless allowed! Amazing! We in America have too many untrained dogs that attack, maime & kill humans & other pets.
There has to be a balance of setting boundaries and finding a happy coexistence. This is on the extreme of oppression using threats, coercion, and most likely followed through with physical discomfort, pain….and more. The outward behaviors can be impressive but it’s not all roses. Trainers can get there but not all owners have the same skills, physical strength or follow-through.
Tune in to the old Cesar Milan movies. They might still be available on youtube. Perhaps Amazon has them.
There is no cruelty, not really. Only that which American can conjures to confuse the issue and therefore to disguise our ignorance of these strong and intelligent animals. Our selfish insistence on making them subservient to our will, without bothering to learn their language first, will result in failed efforts, which we'll blame on the dog, the breeder, the breed itself, then condemn them all for not speaking English, or even Spanish. For requiring us to stop, to bend, to learn what used to come innate. As if they're entitled to no better life than to live, without rules, or education, confined to small spaces, imprisoned by 6' stockade fencing and a wobbly gate. They will stay where they can see through the biggest crack in it, usually where that gate meets its post. They'll peer outside their confinement, imagining the rest of the world outside, though they so dearly wish to be free in that world, or at least not alone.
They'll entertain themselves the best they can. But they'll never live the life they could have if they'd been born in stead, to a nice family in Mexico.
Cesar Milan was named the “Dog Whisperer” too. Please do not use his methods. So many wonderful way’s to train a dog by shaping with positive reinforcement. I’m sure you could achieve these results with positive reinforcement, but I like the person who asked why? Dogs need are not that different than our own, I’m sure for an elderly dog sitting or laying on cement for long periods is torture. For a young intelligent herding dog like mine, it would break her spirit.
Well this was one post worth reading, it really made my day :)
Ruined my day. He’s using a choke collar. Sitting for hours. Cruel.
😂 I see this everyday on my way to work. Love it. 100% on the order of best things in life.
I would like to know who trained these dogs to do that. Not that I want my dog to be trained to be that obedient and patient, but I'd like them to train my grandkids!😁
"Outside of dogs, a man's best friend is books. Inside a dog it's too dark to read."

Loved this article. Delightful read.
The comments though? 🙄

Really? Is is less cruel to leave kids home alone and with no education?

Kids should daily get in school 1 hour of play,
1 hour of Latin (🤣),
1 hour of choral singing,
1 hour of calculus!
etc ...

I live in Finland and our schools are okay
oh well that's different then ☺️ they are just trashing the US in every single direction. they just want to harm the children here 👹☠️
What is the better alternative for an average dog? Being alone at home?
Better home alone than with a human with a choke collar.
How about the dogs with no choke collar? Still better off home alone?
Yes. If he uses a choke collar on one, he uses/used a choke collar on most or all of them. Alone is better than sitting for hours afraid to move.
Simple as that? Home could be hot as hell. Some dogs get really anxious alone

Better yet -
demon leftists in choke collars,
human whispering dogs,
& no one home alone.
Brief but spectacular. Small but worthy. A bright note in a sea of humdrum. Thank you.

Yes. I agree with you. He’s using a choke collar on that dog.
HOW WOULD ONE TRAIN THERE DOG LIKE THIS?

First thing I read this AM. This will be a good day. ❤️
Bogota has the same. I have taken a seat on a bench, just to watch the dogs and their maestro. So inspiring!
